Published on 26 Jan 2010Email To Friend    Print Version

Electronics giants Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics will start mass-producing their solar cells this year.

SEOUL, South Korea – Renowned as a global hub for the solar PV industry, Expo Solar will come back this year to Kintex in Korea during 03–05 February. Expo Solar 2009 was the first exhibition dedicated to solar energy in Korea, and presented viable solutions to climate change problems, and identified strategies for 'green' growth.

This year's event is organised by the Korea Energy Management Corporation (a Government-owned company under the Ministry of Knowledge Economy of Korea) and supported by a number of global authorities in the field of energy.

Global electronics giants Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics have announced that they will start mass-producing their solar cells this year. The two manufacturers will be using Expo Solar 2010 to unveil – for the first time – solar cells developed with their own technologies. The active involvement in the solar PV business by the two world-class electronics giants will reshape the global solar PV industry.

Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), with the largest solar cell production plant in Korea, is now focusing on completing the PV value chain. At the, event in Seoul, HHI will announce its two main goals: US$1 billion in sales this year and a key global PV player status by 2014.

New products showcased

Demonstrating their technology breakthroughs at about 800 booths at the early-February event will be more than 300 names, including such local players as Nexolon, SKC, LST Energy, Dyesoltimo, Jusung Engineering, SFA, AMC, EO Technics, Paru, GNR, D-Solartech and Samyang Reduction Gear, and such international market leaders as Schmalz, Schmid, Tempress, Tigo Energy, KLA-Tencor, Synova SA, EFD (a Nordson company), Coherent, Jonas & Redmann Photovoltaics, Kaco New Energy, NPC, Vector Japan, Trina Solar, Astronergy, ET Solar, and C.E.E.G.

The organisers expect that more than 50,000 solar professionals from all over the world will visit Expo Solar 2010. Held concurrently, the 2010 PV World Forum is all set to discuss the latest in PV technology and market trends. More at www.exposolar.org
