Organic Perspectives
The Future of
Alternative Energies
NEW and EXPERIMENTAL TECHNOLOGIES
It’s a bold start trying to see into the future, and I’d love to be able to say that it is going to be everything we would like it to be. I don’t see any particular obstacles to the World becoming a great place to be, but something always seems to spoil it. There are very few points in history when the World was great for most people, so why should it be in future. The same can be said about the fact that in the last fifty years our climate has changed and it’s logical to believe that it won’t just stop tomorrow. Still, using historical trends can give us an idea of what we can expect our near future to resemble.

Taking the most recent century in twenty year chunks, the differences in technology are vast. The 1950’s were nothing like the 1970’s. I believe that the development of our technologies has immediately and directly altered the course and quality of all our lives. It’s that simple. Wars and disease are the negative influence on mankind and the development of technologies is the positive one. It’s how we move forwards. Yes there are other positive things that influence our place on the planet, but at its root is our ability to learn more and do more. Using our brains and developing primitive technologies was the very thing that catapulted us from animal to humankind in a very short space of evolution.

The same applies today, for all of us. It doesn’t necessarily make you a better person, but the more kit you have got, the more you can do, easily.

In writing all of the pages within savetheplanet, it struck me that the so called free energy source that is supposed to exist may not. Or at least not yet anyway. Through researching energy sources considered to be Alternative Energies, someone may already have found that most elusive source of inestimable energy and put it in a bottle. The speed and scale of research and development within this new energy field seems even to exceed the levels that recent history indicates it should be. Just this week, I read news items on Thorium reactors and the Solar Sunball, which was developed three years ago in Australia and provides three times more power than conventional flat solar panels.

The future of Alternative Energies is that they are proving to be suited for a very wide range of applications. If there is wind and the economics are viable, then wind power is an option. Solar power solutions are just so ideal for built up areas on roof tops. In rural economies, the choices are huge because of space, and biomass and gasifiers are very feasible. For coastal locations there are some impressive power figures being generated predominantly in the UK and the Australian desert holds geothermal power that could power the whole nation. Africa has got all the sun it needs and the US is using its land to develop a massive ethanol industry.

Wherever you are, there is, or will be very shortly, an ideal solution for your Alternative Power contribution. We will all benefit. Savetheplanet endeavours to illuminate and educate many people about making Alternative Energies a normal pastime. These sites below are the ones that could be considered to be alternative. They present a vision of the future of our power supplies and whilst some may be just sketches on a pad, it’s not difficult to feel terribly optimistic.

DID YOU KNOW...
Recycling involves gathering many materials from the consumer and this 'waste' has to get back to the production line.
Of many websites www.wastepoint.co.uk probably best illustrates how the consumer should be helped in this process.
